Ask for Better Credit Card Terms Regularly

It’s a good idea from time to time to call your credit card company and request some improvement in your terms.

More credit and lower interest rates are probably the most common requests that customers make. Better rewards and removal of membership fees are popular items also. But regardless of what particular improve-ments you’re after or even if you don’t have any specific idea of what you would like to see happen to your terms, it’s a good idea just to call in and ask for something. (You can always ask for lower interest rates.)

There is usually an effort made when dealing with “retainable” customers to offer you something else, if you can’t be granted your initial request. When it comes to making offers to customers there are layers of oppor-tunities depending upon what department you are dealing with. Front line agent have access to one layer of offers available to customers.

But the next layer “up”, a retention department staffed with supervisors and specialists who are specifically trained to keep customers on board, may have other offers that the front line agent does not have access to. If you get directed past the front line agent to a manager, specialist or supervisor, you are probably getting to the point where you will hear about the absolutely best offers available for your account.

You should consider marking your calendar every three months or so to call your credit card company to ask for some improvement in your account.
